Metallica
St. Anger (2003)

I joined the Metallica fellowship quite late, but after hearing their music, I was impressed. I straight away bought the Live DVD, where we see Metallic accompanied by a symphony! It’s absolutely brilliant.

So you can’t blame me for being excited about finally getting hold of St. Anger. If you can imagine me excitedly waiting for the CD to load with a childish smile on my face. Then the moment I heard the production and music quality, my expression was replaced with a confused and disappointed look of heart break. Well I wouldn’t go that far, but it was definitely a sad moment.

Supposedly, the album was meant to sound like it was being played in a garage, but in my opinion that’s a poor excuse for an album that was lazily written and badly produced. It’s a shame to have to say that of such a quality, ‘history-changing’ band.

I must admit, hearing St. Anger and Frantic live was good, but the rest of the album doesn’t exactly live up to the high expectations I have of such a massive band.

Let’s hope they can do better next time.
