The Lemonheads
The Lemonheads (2006)

This is a fantastic album. The Lemonheads self titled album has come out of nowhere with little or no fanfare, and proves to be one of the best good-time rock ‘n’ roll albums in the past year or so. Almost a decade since their last album, you could have been forgiven for thinking that the band had parted company, and that Evan Dando was now quite happy making low profile alt-country solo albums. Well, not quite. Although I am not sure of the circumstances, I am extremely happy that the band has now reformed. For those who think that the ‘It’s a Shame about Ray’ album was a one-off, which would never be bettered – think again. ‘The Lemonheads’ proves an equal match, and is just as energetic and fun as the aforementioned LP.

‘It’s a Shame about Ray’ became some sort of benchmark in the mid nineties for non-Britpop bands. Although the band had little commercial success, it showed that other countries could produce some good rock ‘n’ roll albums, although any impact they had was soon forgotten about when they released ‘Come on Feel the Lemonheads’.

So this album, perhaps ten years too late to make a dent on the landscape which is filled with Libertines wannabe’s, but for those who wanted a follow up to ‘It’s a Shame about Ray’ – here it is.
