The
Subways
Young For
Eternity
(2005)
The
Subways album Young for Eternity is their debut album. Based in London
the trio performs a variety of indie rock music blending a mix of hard
rock with soft melodic harmonies. The band has an uncommon line-up,
consisting of boyfriend and girlfriend Billy Lunn and Charlotte Cooper,
and also Lunn’s half-brothers Josh Morgan.
The first track on the album "I Want to Hear What You Have Got to say"
kick starts the album with its fast pace. Lunn and Copper share the
vocals, though Lunn being the more dominate of the two. There’s a real
roughness to the number which more than paves the ways in terms of
what’s in store. “Rock n roll Queen” is perhaps the track that stands
out, with its catchy chorus the track shows the brilliant unison the
brand has together and the relationship between Lunn and Copper only
heightens the lyric power of the track. The track “Mary” is an
interesting one with the person the song is about, being given the name
Mary so that it almost as if talking about her in past tense.
All in all Young for Eternity is an album made up of 3 or 4 quality
singles, I say this not to discourage you but only to bring forward the
simplistic lyrical genius of the band. The rustic vocals are a breath of
fresh air in an industry of over produced bands.
