Wolfmother
Wolfmother (2006)

Wolfmother's self-titled debut album 'Wolfmother' is one of the biggest hit albums of 2006. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, this Hard Rock meats Psychedelic Band Have been tipped as a modern day Led Zeppelin indeed sighting them and amongst other rock acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, as influences. Many have touted these three Aussies as the front-runners of a Psychedelic Rock revival.

The album kicks off with "Colossal" a track heavy in its use of Front man Andrew Stockdale’s Guitar as the main driving force behind the tracks ruff edgy feel, with lines such as “She must be mother natures child Cause she's runnin' to the call of the wild’ and “I'm just a gypsy with wondering eyes, I'll tell you secrets that send you to sleep” Jimmy Page would be proud. The fast pace of “Woman” further shows the bands pedigree as musicians with this track perhaps showering best drummer Myles Heskett abilities. The track of the album is without a doubt “Minds Eye” a song which more then any other brings back feelings of the early 70’s with its sectioned structure. Starting with very calmly with Stockdale’s phenomenal voice leading the way. Then comes the meeting of vocals and instruments and finally the instrumental finish. Track 6 "Joker & the Thief" is a high energy pumping track. Nice Keyboard work in the background and Heskett's drumming is ace. Nice little bridgework on the guitars as it leads into a solo of sorts with some nice effects. Other tracks worthy of mention are "White Unicorn", "Pyramid” and “Apple Tree” songs witch seem made to listen too stoned!

Wolfmother is a totally fresh and exciting new bread of music, this album is the first in a long time to take chances and dare to break the norm. Wolfmother are perhaps the first band to truly bring back this style of music in a modern approach, if I was to sum up this album in one word it would be Different! There is no other band out there at this time sounding this way!
