The
View
Bristol Academy
(21.02.2006)
The View were supporting Babyshambles on their current tour of the UK in
between Pete Doherty’s court appearances, and they were the surprise
package of the gig. The first band lacked in energy to get the crowd
warmed up for Babyshambles, but The View were superb. Before this gig I
had never heard of this group of young lads before so it was going to be
a surprise whatever. But as soon as they started playing their first
song, it was clear that they were going to provide the crowd with the
energy required to bring on the main act. The songs that they were
playing had a real feel about them that they just loved to play, and
play with plenty of enthusiasm. I remember specifically the bass player
really going for it through the whole set, jumping around the stage and
really getting the crowd going. Throughout the whole set there wasn’t as
much as a single bum note.
The treat came toward the end of the set when the bassist and the lead
singer/guitarist swapped roles. This just added to the fact that these
lads are a talented group, and look set to have a bright future. Since
the gig, I’ve got hold of there demos and they sound very impressive,
with one song in particular, ‘Skag Trendy’ reminding me of the energy
that was given out at the gig. I’m sure that The View will have a bright
future ahead of them.
