Kasabian
Empire (2006)
An eagerly anticipated comeback single from the Leicester
band, which bodes well for the new album. Co-written by guitarist Serge
Pizzorno and the recently departed Chris Karloff, 'Empire' is a bouncy,
synth-heavy track which has a sing-along chorus and could possibly be
compared to 'club foot' off the last album. Not that it should be
compared to the aforementioned track because there is suggestion in this
track that Kasabian's 2nd album could have a different feel to that of
the first one. XTERMINATOR era Primal Scream was definitely an
inspiration for Kasabian's previous work, but maybe the lads are now
heading for a more boisterous straight forward rock n' roll sound. We
shall wait and see.
The B-side to this track 'Black Whistler' is arguably as good as
'Empire'. A complete contrast to the title track, it shows more depth
within the band's song writing and perhaps a more tender side. It is
more in the vain of some of the filler on the debut album, but ten times
better! So a great single, with an equally great B-side, a rarity these
days - buy it just for that.
